A bicycle, often called a bike or cycle, is a human-powered, pedal-driven, single-track vehicle, having two wheels attached to a frame, one behind the other.

A regular bicycle often consists of a chain drive system.

The chain drive system is made of metal and requires constant lubrication. Furthermore, the efficiency of a chain drive system becomes questionable with time. Hence there arises a need to develop an alternate system that can tackle these issues. A very suitable replacement to this chain drive system is the BELT DRIVE system. This project employs the use PowerGrip HTD® synchronous belt drives  to overcome the shortcomings.

It involved the calculation of Belt parameters from equivalent chain parameters and design of a new sprocket as per the dimensions.

The sprocket was machined and welded onto the bicycle frame.
